Welcome

                            What is Run Coaching?

A service where you can follow a program designed specifically for you. While in consultation with your coach you advise what your limiting factors are and your program is designed accordingly.

When you train with Nisus Fitness, whether its on a 3 month or 6 month program you will always have the opportunity to adjust and personalize your training plans. The second advantage, is that you are not alone. You will be reporting to your coach how you are getting on and that same person is there also to answer any of your questions whether its by email, text, skype or phone.

How does it work?

Step 1:

Complete your online registration and assign a time for your coach to contact you. The initial consulation is the most lengthly as the coach needs to find out where you have been, where you are and where you want to go as far as your jogging or running performance stands.

Step 2:
After your first consultation, the coach will design your first 4 week block and will email you. Once again both you and the coach will review the plan to ensure you understand every aspect of the program and the various types of sessions you will be prescribed to do.

Step 3:
Now its a case of you following the program and reporting back to your coach on a regular basis.

Do I have to be a runner?

No!
Many of the Nisus clients who have participated in races have started from a walking basis and then in time combined walking and jogging and eventually progressed onto running. You will receive a personalised program for your current level and will only progress to the next level when you are well and truely ready. As the Principle of Training "Progressive Overload" states one should not exceed a 10% increase in training volume at any one time. This is strictly adhered to in all Nisus Fitness programs.

Is it only running coaching?

No!
Although running is the key focus eventually there are many other aspects of training that have to be considered. Your program will include core and strength training as well as specific flexibility programs which will (a) improve your efficiency as a runner and (b) reduce the risk of injury. Another important aspect of your training is that you eat correctly for your activity. The obvious benifit of running training and eating properly is weight loss but you will also be advised on what to eat the day of a run and how to carb load for those longer training sessions and races in time.

How is my training monitored?
Sometimes giving feedback on your training to a coach can be difficult. For example, if its your first time ever doing a "tempo run", it may be very difficult to put into words how you felt? The safest option for runners is to simple say it was hard!! But as a coach, you need to know how hard? 6/10 or 9/10? This method is known as the Borg Scale and is the quickest way for feedback to your coach. the more you practise the more accurate you become on your feedback. The problem is that this form of feedback is subjective and what the runner perceives as a 7/10 may be different to the coaches perception of a 7/10!!

Both Heart Rate (HR) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are a vital tool to both athlete and coach. You can buy both HR & GPS systems individually but many companies are now selling running watches that house both features with Garmin been the market leaders for both their quality watches but their very good online record keeping system "Connect".

Connect is a system that most Nisus clients use to send specific workouts to their coach which will give a detailed report on your distance, speed/pace, elevation, heart rate and the actual route you took. This is vital for your coach to give you real feedback on how you performed and whether you need to do more/less, faster/slower!

Whether you choose to buy a HR/GPS watch or not, you can still avail of a personalised program but more detailed feedback and information can be provided if you poses such as device.

What happens if I miss a session or two?

As addressed in the introduction above you receive a customized program which is designed to accomodate your limiting factors and the potential issues that may limit your training. Every clients schedule is different but the greatest limiting factor to a successful training plan is time. Because of this everyone is going to miss a session here or there or they may have to move their training plan around a little. This is normal in todays hetic lifestyle!

This is one of the reasons why Nisus Online Coaching is different from a standardized online program. If its a thing your busy at work, or that the kids are off school, all you need to do is to contact your coach and he will adjust your program the best way possible. You do not need to cram extra sessions in to make up for lost time but instead systematically adjust the coming training to continue your progression but to avoid overuse injuries or the risk of overtraining and getting injured.

If there is a problem contact your coach and together we'll get you back on track. You are not alone as a Nisus ORC client!

Can a friend and I do the same program?

Running & Jogging can be a lonely pass time for some and bringing a buddy along for company is a great way to enjoy your session together as well as adding security in isolated areas. Many clients ask can I just copy "Joe Bloggs" program and the answer is "YES",.......BUT.......and unfortunately there is a "BUT".

Each and every program is personalised to the clients past experience, current fitness level and aimed towards to future goals.  The
Principles of Training "Specificity", "Individualization" and "Adaptation" state that the body needs to be trained specifically to physical requirements, appreciate that everybody is an individual and that some people may take a longer or shorter time to adapt to a certain training stimulus. bearing this in mind it defeats the purpose just to simply follow someone elses program. In fact, this is how many runners get injured. they do too much too fast simple because it worked for another!

Therefore, it is not advisable to follow someone elses program to the "T" as it is not designed specifically for you and

"One man's food can be another man's poison"!
